Copy AI Alternatives for PR: 5 Tools Founders Can Buy
Summary
Looking for copy ai alternatives that actually help you get press? Copy.ai is now a sales automation platform from $1,000 a month for real workflows. For press releases and pitches, ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month wins for solo founders, Jasper suits teams from $59 a seat, and Prowly (now Semrush AI PR Toolkit) at $149 a month adds contacts and sending. Anyword and Writesonic fit other jobs.
Verdict. Among the copy ai alternatives we checked for press release and pitch work, ChatGPT wins for founders writing alone, Jasper wins for teams sharing a brand voice, and Prowly (now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit) wins if you also need journalist contacts. Copy.ai itself moved to sales workflows priced from $1,000 a month, so it is the wrong baseline for a founder with a launch next week.
Copy.ai used to be the $49 writing tool you tried on a Sunday night. In October 2025 Fullcast, a revenue operations vendor, announced it was buying the company, and the homepage now sells "The First AI-Native GTM Platform". The writing chat still exists at $29 a month, with 5 seats and unlimited words. Anything that looks like a workflow starts at $1,000 a month billed annually. That is the price of one month of the agency retainer you are trying to avoid, and you would still not get a single journalist email.
So the useful question is not "what is the best Copy.ai clone". It is: what do you need to get a release or a pitch in front of a reporter? We split that into three jobs and picked the tool that does each one at a sane price.
What Copy.ai still does, and where it stops
Copy.ai Chat gives a small team 5 seats, unlimited words and access to OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models for $24 a month billed annually. If all you need is drafts, that price is fine. The trouble is the next step up. Growth is $1,000 a month for 75 seats and 20,000 workflow credits, Expansion is $2,000, and Scale is $3,000.
There is also a trust gap. Trustpilot shows Copy.ai at 1.8 from 196 reviews, which is rough next to Jasper at 3.3 from roughly 4,100. Review sites for software buyers skew kinder than Trustpilot, so read both. We could not verify a current G2 score for Copy.ai that we would quote, so we left it out.
Job one: write the release yourself for $20
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month, billed monthly. Business seats are $20 each billed annually or $25 billed monthly. For a founder, that buys a drafting partner that can turn a changelog into a release, write three subject lines, and rewrite a pitch for a trade outlet versus a podcast host.
What it will not do is remember your brand voice between chats unless you paste your guidelines, and it has no idea which journalist covered your category last week. You supply the facts, the angle and the contact list. Also check the data controls: on Plus, conversations can be used for training unless you opt out.
Our test for this job is simple. Paste the same 5 facts into each tool and ask for a 300 word release plus a 90 word pitch. A tool that charges $59 a seat has to beat that output by a visible margin, and in our judgment only Jasper's brand governance clearly does for teams.
Job two: keep a team on one voice
Jasper Pro is $69 a month billed monthly or $59 a month billed yearly, per seat. You get 2 brand voices, 5 knowledge assets and 3 audiences, plus a library of agents. Jasper also publishes a solutions page aimed at PR and communications teams, which is more than you can say for most tools here.
The numbers back it up on software review sites: 4.7 on G2 from 1,318 reviews and 4.8 on Capterra. Trustpilot is 3.3 from about 4,100, and the complaints cluster around billing and support. There is no self-serve plan between the single-seat Pro and custom Business pricing, so a team of four pays four seats or talks to sales.
Pick Jasper when three or more people touch the same announcements and someone keeps rewriting the company description by hand. Skip it when you are alone.
Job three: get it in front of a journalist
This is where a chat window stops. Prowly is now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit: Base is $149 a month, Pro is $279, Business is $499, and each plan includes one user. It combines an AI-cited media database, email sending with engagement tracking, AI drafts of pitches and press releases, and media monitoring.
Two catches. Contact exports are metered, and 200 extra exports cost $149 a month. And because the product was renamed, plenty of 2024 and 2025 reviews describe a different pricing model. The G2 score we logged was 4.2 from 111 reviews, a smaller sample than the big writing tools.
For a founder sending 20 pitches a month, $149 is hard to justify. For one running a launch with 150 targets, it is cheaper than a day of an agency account manager.
Two tools that solve a different problem
Anyword scores each generated variant for predicted performance, and that is useful when you are testing ad headlines or email subject lines. Starter is $39 a month billed yearly, or $49 monthly, with 1 seat. Data-Driven is $79 yearly or $99 monthly with 3 seats. Plugging in your own campaign data to train the model is a Business feature at custom pricing. A 400 word release gets little out of a performance score.
Writesonic changed the most. Its homepage now reads "AI Search Growth Engine", and plans start at $79 a month billed annually, then $199 and $399. Starter includes 15 AI articles and 10 site audits per month, plus tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. If you want to know whether chatbots mention your startup, that is a real use. If you want a pitch, it is the wrong box.
How we would choose
Solo and pre-seed: ChatGPT Plus, then spend the saved money on a one-month contact database when a launch is close. Seed with a small comms hire: Jasper for the shared voice. A launch with a target list: Prowly for the sending and tracking. Running paid ads next to the launch: add Anyword Starter, but not instead of any of the above.
One more number to keep. A traditional agency at $12K a month costs 12 times the Copy.ai Growth plan and 80 times the Prowly Base plan. None of these tools replaces the relationship work, but they remove the part you were paying for by the hour.
What we left out
We dropped Rytr from the shortlist. Its site now describes an AI relationship manager that preps meetings and drafts follow-ups, which is a different product from the cheap writing assistant it used to be. We also did not test Muck Rack or Cision, because neither publishes a price and this page sticks to tools you can buy without a demo call.

ChatGPT
- $20/mo Plus covers drafts, rewrites and research in one place
- No seat minimum and no sales call to start
- Handles tone changes and 3 pitch variants in a single prompt
- No journalist database, so you still source contacts yourself
- Has no brand voice memory unless you paste your guidelines each time
- Plus conversations can be used for training unless you opt out in data controls
The cheapest honest replacement when you write the pitch yourself.

Jasper
- Brand voice, knowledge assets and audiences keep releases consistent
- G2 rating of 4.7 across 1,318 reviews
- Has a dedicated PR and communications solutions page and agent library
- Pro costs $59 to $69 per seat per month, three times a ChatGPT Plus seat
- No self-serve tier between single-seat Pro and custom Business pricing
- Trustpilot at 3.3 from about 4,100 reviews points to billing and support friction
Worth it once three or more people touch the same announcements.

Prowly
- AI drafts pitch emails and press releases inside the same workflow
- Media database, email sending and engagement tracking come bundled
- Published plan prices from $149/mo with no sales call
- One user per plan and contact exports are metered at $149 per extra 200
- Prowly is now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit, so reviews of the old product are partly stale
- $149/mo is a 7x jump over a $20 chat subscription for a founder sending a few pitches
The only option here that touches distribution, priced like a real tool.

Anyword
- Predicted performance score on each variant before you spend anything
- Unlimited generation on every plan with 30+ languages
- Starter at $39/mo billed yearly undercuts Jasper and Writesonic
- Scoring pays off mostly on short copy, so a 400 word release gains little
- Connecting your own campaign data needs the Business tier, custom priced
- Nothing for finding journalists or sending pitches
Great for ad headlines, an odd fit for a launch announcement.

Writesonic
- Includes 15 AI articles and 10 site audits per month on Starter
- Tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews mention your brand
- Free trial of 7 days, no card needed to start
- Now an AI search growth platform first, starting at $79/mo billed annually
- Plan names and caps have changed several times, so old reviews mislead
- No PR workflow, journalist data or pitch tooling at all
Pick it for AI search tracking. Skip it for press releases.
Verdict
If you are a founder writing your own announcements, ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month does the Copy.ai job for a fraction of the price, and you keep the money for contact data. If you need contacts and sending, Prowly (now the Semrush AI PR Toolkit) at $149 a month is the only tool in this list that goes past the draft. Jasper earns its $59 to $69 per seat once a team shares one brand voice. Anyword and Writesonic are fine products aimed at other jobs.
How we tested
We checked each vendor's live homepage and pricing page during the week of 26 October 2026, took a real homepage screenshot of every product the same day, and cross-checked review counts on G2, Capterra and Trustpilot. We did not run a controlled pitch test on journalists for this page, so the scores are editorial judgment on a 0 to 5 scale for one use case: a pre-seed to Series A founder producing press releases and pitches. Prices are list prices in USD and will move. No product on this page pays us, and none of the links are affiliate links. Several vendors changed what they sell in the past year (Copy.ai, Prowly, Writesonic), so we dropped Rytr, which now markets itself as a relationship manager, rather than list it for something it no longer does.
